Truck driver sentenced to prison for illegally transporting oil spill

DANBURY, Conn.

— A truck driver has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for transporting an illegal oil spill.

A federal judge in New Hampshire sentenced Kenneth G. Cavanaugh to 10 years and six months in prison, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney’s office in New London.

Federal prosecutors said the 31-year-old was transporting crude oil near his home on July 7, 2016, when he lost control of his truck, crashed into a utility pole and then flipped over a fence.

He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, the statement said.
